Edith Cain Inglesby Walker

Edith Cain Inglesby Walker of Savannah passed away on Saturday October 26, 2013 at age 96, surrounded by her loving family. She was the daughter of William Henry Cain and Edith Dunwody Cain. She became the widow of Samuel Powel Inglesby in 1970. In 1996 she married Dr. Howard S.J. Walker of Mobile, AL. She lived with him for 9 wonderful years in Mobile before returning to Savannah.

She enjoyed a successful career as a realtor with G. Philip Morgan and subsequently at the David Byck Realty Company until she retired at age 75.

She was active in the Savannah community throughout her life. She served as State Registrar of the National Society of the Colonial Dames in the State of Georgia. She was a lifelong member of St. John's Church, serving as director of the Sunday School and as a docent for the Green Meldrim house. She was a member of the Froebel Circle which helped to introduce Tybee to many Savannah children.

She was an accomplished bridge player. She was charming, intelligent, lovely, and a woman of singular character. Above all, she was devoted to her family.

Surviving family members are her children: Sam P. Inglesby Jr. Gay, Eleanor I. Binford Marshall and William C. Inglesby Ellery; her grandchildren: Elizabeth Inglesby Rob, Caroline Stephens Dean, Elizabeth Binford, Eleanor Croggon Marc, Marshall Binford, Meredith Blanchard Steve, Catherine Inglesby; and 5 great grandchildren.

She is also survived by her husband Dr. Howard Seaborn Jones Walker and his children: Dr. Howard Walker III Debbie, Benjamin Walker Paula, daughter-in-law Teresa Walker and their families.

The family expresses their gratitude to her caregivers Mrs. Flora Flewellen and Ms. Patricia Boggan for their able and loving care during her extended convalescence.

The memorial service will be held at St. John's Church at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 31st. A reception at the Parish house will follow.
